Since 1980, Jaap (Leeuwarden, 1959) deals with Balkan music and Yiddish culture. As a clarinetist he belongs to the top of Europe and regularly gives lectures and workshops at conservatories and music schools. Jaap Mulder develops on the basis of world music his theater shows and filmmusic. He develops as a lyricist (Brider Brandwein, Ergens, Oostenwind, Over de Brug, De Muur and Roots) and composer (De Wegweg, text Judith Herzberg, director Frans Weisz). He is multi-instrumentalist and plays the clarinet in addition to saxophone, cornet, flute, trombone, tuba, cello, accordion, piano and mandolin.
As frontman of Di Gojim he plays in all theaters of the Netherlands and at festivals in France, Israel, Belgium, Germany, USA, Mexico, Turkey, Spain and Hungary.
Jaap Mulder played together with Bodil de la Parra, Frank London, Bente Kahan, Jan Rokita and Shura Lipovsky. He was during the 2006-2007 season multi-instrumentalist at the International Dance Theater. In 2007 he was invited by Yale Strom (USA) as a guest musician for the American tour of his band Hot Pstromi. In 2008 he played with the Dutch Jaap Mulder namesake theater in "Hoera, het is een Jaap Mulder". In 2009 he wrote the partly autobiographical musical production "Roots". In 2010 he wrote along with comedian Jaap Mulder a youth theater "Wompeldons.
